Soutec: An App to Help Students Choose their Professional Career
Soutec is a free app designed to help Brazilian students select a technical course that fits their interests, skills, and preferences. Developed by Serviços e Informações do Brasil, the app evaluates the user's career preferences and provides recommendations based on the Catalog of National Technical Courses (CNCT) that match their profile. The app allows users to pause the questionnaire and continue later, and it provides a complete summary report that explains their professional profile.
Soutec recommends courses that match the user's profile, and it provides options to customize the search using criteria like location and distance from the student's residence. Users can also save their favorite courses and institutions. The app was developed by a group of experts in applied computer science for education, linked to the Nucleus of Excellence in Social Technologies (NEES) at the Federal University of Alagoas.
The demand for the app came from the Ministry of Education's Professional and Technological Education Secretariat (Setec), which identified a need to help Brazilian youths learn about professional courses offered by the federal education network. Soutec can also be used by professionals who want to reposition their careers, contributing to lifelong learning.
